Endurance Land secure planning permission for 160 Blackfriars Road, London, SE1

Endurance Land and Angelo Gordon have secured planning permission for a new 169 bed hotel in the car park to the rear of the existing office at 160 Blackfriars Road, SE1.

Planning permission was awarded unanimously by the Southwark planning committee on 20th July.

As well as delivering a new hotel on the site, which will respond to growing visitor accommodation demand and boost local growth, the BREEAM excellent development provides a new hub for the community with a new, publicly-accessible courtyard – Friars Yard – which will be a shared space where workers, visitors and local residents can come together.

Jonathan Fletcher, CEO & Founder of Endurance Land, said:

“Following an extensive consultation process with the planning officers, cabinet members and the local community, it gives us great pleasure to be able to announce this consent with our valued partners AG. This is the second planning permission we have secured with them in two months following the consent at 1-5 London Wall Buildings in June.  We will now be able to consider the wider strategy for the site”

The permission also includes a series of improvements to the existing office building including a new reception, accessed via a new portal entrance to the whole development, an enlarged roof terrace as well as over 2,000 sq ft of new affordable workspace.

Henry MacInnes, Director of Endurance Land, said:

“We are delighted to have received planning consent for the development of a new hotel at 160 Blackfriars Road. The consent will deliver a vibrant new use for the underused car park, improvements to the existing office building and genuine community benefits.”

Creating a new public realm will be an exciting addition to Blackfriars Road and is provided after extensive consultation with the local community and was well received by Southwark Planning Committee.

DP9 acted as planning consultant with EPR as lead architect.
